HLTAID006 Provide Advanced First Aid

OVERVIEW

Would you know what to do if a family member, friend or work colleague needed urgent assistance to help them survive until an ambulance arrived? A first aid course provides the skills and knowledge to perform CPR or offer basic first aid treatment could save a life and is regarded as a valuable skill to have.

By completing a first aid course, you will learn how to provide first aid, CPR life support, and manage an incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

HLTAID006 Provide advanced first aid

What you'll Learn

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response, including management of the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

The unit applies to workers who may be required to provide, coordinate and manage a first aid response across a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

​The course includes HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life Support and HLTAID003 Provide first aid.

Skills obtained include:

​ CPR Defibrillation bag-valve-mask ventilation in a 2 rescuer procedure manual handling techniques use of an AED and apply various first aid techniques

Assessment Process

Assessment Requirements

  • Online Theory to be completed prior to Class

Practical Assessment

  • 1 theory test (multiple choice questions) plus practical exercises, you must be marked as competent to pass for your qualification.

 

  • Practical assessments are completed in groups, pairs or individually (depending on the assessment) and may involve putting people in the recovery position, applying bandages and practicing CPR on manikins on the floor.

To receive a ‘Competent’ mark for this course all participants must be assessed conducting CPR on the floor with adult, child and infant manikins.

Delivery Mode

  • Mixed mode: Completion pre-course study plus 6.5 hours practical training on-site.
  • Face to Face: 12 hours face to face training on-site.

  • and apply various first aid techniques

Certificate Renewal

It is recommended that renewal for this course is undertaken every 3 years, with the additional requirement of updating the CPR component every 12 months

Pre-Requisites

Whilst there are no pre-requisites for enrolling in this course, there are pre-course requirements. All participants are required to complete pre-course theory prior to attending their class. Participants are also required to have a minimum level of Literacy & Numeracy to be allowed admittance to this course.
 
It is a requirement that CPR be performed for at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. Please advise at the time of enrolment if you have any medical conditions or specials needs that may prevent you from getting on the floor.

Award

Participants assessed as being competent in all assessments will receive:

  • A Statement of Attainment in HLTAID006 Provide advanced first aid (including HLTAID001, HLTAID002 and HLTAID003)
